The Cross: Where Wisdom and Folly Meet #1917

The Cross: Where Wisdom and Folly Meet The Divine Paradox of the Cross In the tapestry of human wisdom, threads of intellect and reason weave a fabric celebrated by the world. Yet, amidst this grand design, there stands a symbol that defies conventional understanding—a cross, rugged and unadorned, bearing the weight of a profound paradox. Here, where the world sees only folly, the essence of divine wisdom is revealed. The cross, once a mere instrument of death and shame, transforms into the gateway of life and glory. To those bound by earthly wisdom, it seems an absurdity, a stumbling block that disrupts the neat categories of logic and success. But to those who dare to see with the eyes of faith, it is the ultimate revelation of God’s power and love. This is the wisdom of the cross, a wisdom that calls us to embrace what the world deems foolish and to find in that embrace the very heart of divine truth. Paul’s words echo through the ages, urging us to become ‘fools’ in the eyes of the world. This is not a call to ignorance, but a call to humility—a recognition that true wisdom often hides beneath the veneer of foolishness. It is a call to let go of our pride, our reliance on human intellect, and to trust in the deeper, often inscrutable wisdom of God. In this divine folly, we find our true place, not in the accolades of men, but in the gentle, powerful hands of the Creator. The cross stands as a beacon of this paradox. It tells us that in loss, we gain; in death, we find life; in weakness, we discover strength. It is a story that subverts the norms, upends expectations, and invites us into a new way of seeing and being. To be a fool for Christ is to walk this path, to accept the scorn of the wise and the strong, and to rest in the assurance that God’s ways, though mysterious, are always good. In the cross, we encounter a wisdom that is not of this world. It is a wisdom that invites us to surrender, to let go of our need to control, and to trust in the One who sees beyond our limited perspective. It is a wisdom that calls us to love without measure, to forgive without limit, and to live with a hope that transcends the trials of this life. This is the divine paradox of the cross. It is a journey into the heart of God’s mystery, where we find that true wisdom often appears as folly, and true strength is found in surrender. As we embrace this paradox, we find ourselves aligned with the deepest truths of the universe, held in the loving embrace of the One who turns our world upside down to set it right. In this place, the wisdom of the cross becomes our guiding star, leading us through the darkness of doubt and despair into the light of divine understanding. We become fools for Christ, and in that foolishness, we find our true wisdom and strength. This is the journey of faith, the path of the cross, the divine paradox that transforms our lives and leads us into the eternal embrace of God’s love. Pastor Steven G. Lee (June 24, 2024)
