The Resilient Heart of Faith #2074

The Resilient Heart of Faith In America, where faith once stood tall, Three hundred twenty thousand churches call. Yet the voices that once filled their halls, Grow faint with time, as the number falls. From ninety percent in days of yore, To sixty-four, perhaps even more. The pandemic’s shadow left its trace, Empty pews, and a changing face. Eighty-five percent return, But many hearts no longer burn. Millennials drift, Boomers depart, Leaving gaps, and a heavy heart. Megachurches rise, still standing high, Ten thousand souls, reaching the sky. Yet smaller flocks face doors now closed, Financial strains, faith exposed. Digital realms, a new frontier, Faith reaches out, drawing near. Through screens and posts, we try to bind, But physical bonds are hard to find. Despite the shifts, a story unfolds, Of faith reformed, as the world molds. Every loss, every closed door, Carries potential for something more. In this landscape, transformation gleams, Faith persists, in new dreams. Broader, inclusive, it seeks to grow, In the heartbeats of today’s flow. For in these shifting sands, we see, The timeless quest for unity. Ever resilient, ever true, Faith endures, in me and you. Let us embrace this change with grace, Finding strength in every place. Holding onto what makes faith real, Adapting with a fervent zeal. For the resilient heart of faith we find, Beats on through the changing times. A beacon of hope, a light anew, In every heart, in me and you. -Steven G. Lee (June 30, 2024)
