Necessary Training in Christianity #2085

Necessary Training in Christianity When your brother falls to poverty's snare, And cannot hold his weight in life's cruel tide, Support him as a stranger, with care, As a sojourner, by his side. In the scrolls of ancient truth, it's clear, Sodom's guilt lay bare to see, With pride, and ease, and plenty near, Yet no aid to the poor, no charity. When I was hungry, you gave Me to eat, When I was thirsty, you gave Me to drink, As a stranger, you took Me in from the street, In nakedness, you clothed Me, without a blink. When sickness came, you looked after Me, In prison's chains, you visited there, For in these acts, the gospel you see, Love’s embodiment in humble care. This training, necessary, pure and true, Is the essence of the Christian call, To serve the least, as Christ would do, In every moment, great or small. -Steven G. Lee (June 30, 2024)
