Hegelian Influence on Western Christian Theology: Dialectics and Historical Consciousness #2108 (Poem)

Hegelian Influence on Western Christian Theology: Dialectics and Historical Consciousness In the realm where faith and reason dance, Hegel’s spirit found its chance, To weave a tapestry so grand, Of dialectics, history’s strand. Dialectical Theology, a river’s flow, Where contradictions come and go, Through synthesis, truth evolves, In paradox, the mystery solves. History’s scroll, unrolled by time, Reveals the sacred, the sublime, In every age, a story told, Of doctrines new and traditions old. Schleiermacher’s bridge of thought, Reconciliation gently wrought, Between the modern mind and creed, A progressive faith to meet the need. Barth’s voice, a clarion call, In dialectics, stood tall, God’s revelation, sharp and bright, In paradox, found holy light. Tillich’s depth, where finite meets, The infinite in quiet streets, Existential echoes ring, In culture’s heart, faith takes wing. Moltmann’s hope, eschaton’s fire, History’s end, a dream’s desire, In dialectical embrace, A future born of divine grace. Pannenberg, with vision clear, Resurrection’s truth brought near, In history’s pulse, God’s hand we see, A systematic tapestry. Hegel’s thought, a lens so wide, Through which theology takes pride, In dynamic, evolving streams, Faith’s journey, ever redeems. So let us honor Hegel’s name, In the dialectic’s frame, For in the dance of thought and time, The sacred and the reasoned rhyme. -Steven G. Lee (June 30, 2024)
