In the Shadow of New Faces #2045

In the Shadow of New Faces In the land where faith once stood so tall, a fractured image casts its shadow over the hallowed call. Christian identity, once a beacon of unwavering light, now wears the chameleon faces of nationalism and partisan politics, of racial identity and socio-political-economic status. These are the new altars upon which discipleship to Christ is sacrificed, and the vision of an alternative polis, an eschatological kingdom, is blurred. The church, once the axis around which culture, power, economics, and politics revolved, now finds itself on the periphery, a fading echo in the cacophony of worldly ambitions. The leaders, once steadfast in their heavenly mandate, now waver, their hearts anxious over their waning influence and diminishing stature. In their quest to reclaim lost ground, they become easy prey, wooed by the hollow promises of transient power and status. A fractured image shadows its call, and the threads of worldly design stray from the sacred, divine. No longer is the church's voice strong and bright; it fades in the complexities of the modern fight. The path of discipleship, forgotten in the scramble for power, leaves the soul hollow. An alternative polis, a vision blurred; kingdom views seldom heard. The new creation, the new humanity in Christ, overlooked for the siren call of earthly vice. Leaders, anxious and seeking sway, lose their way in the worldly fray. In the chase for influence, they forget the sacred Name, chasing shadows and losing sight of the eternal flame. Yet, there is a call to return, to find the sacred heart once more. Discipleship, a renewed start, where eschatological views shine clear and bright. In the light of Jesus, let us unite, finding true identity not in the world's fleeting reign but in Christ’s eternal gain. In the humble path of the Nazarene, true identity is seen, not in the constructs of man but in the divine plan. A fractured image, made whole in the light of the cross, where the world's shadows dissipate, and the soul finds its true home. Let us heed this call, returning to the sacred path, where faith stands tall once more, unwavering in the face of the world's transient allure. -Steven G. Lee (June 29, 2024)
