God Among Us #1632
God Among Us
God is in Tenderloin, San Francisco,
In every heart that beats with hope,
In the whispers of the alleyways,
Where shadows and light elope.
God is in Coyote Creek, San Jose,
In the ripples of the gentle stream,
In the laughter of the children,
Where reality meets the dream.
God is in Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Oakland,
In the struggle and the fight,
In the voices of the people,
Who stand up for what is right.
The Gospel loves the least, the lost, and the last,
In every tear and sigh,
In the moments of silent sorrow,
God is nigh, oh so nigh.
If we are with those who live in the slums,
In every face, every hand we clasp,
God is surely with us,
In every love-filled gasp.
For where there is love and compassion,
Where humanity's heart beats true,
There, in the midst of the humble,
God is, forever anew.
