The True Shepherd #1911
The True Shepherd
Most assuredly, I say to you,
I am the door of the sheep,
The gate through which the faithful pass,
In my care, they find their keep.
All who came before were thieves,
Robbers cloaked in falsehood's guise,
But I, the Good Shepherd, came
To lay down my life and rise.
The good shepherd gives His life,
For the flock He loves so dear,
But the hireling, void of heart,
Flees when danger draws near.
As the Father knows Me well,
So I know the Father's will,
To lay down my life for the sheep,
In My love, their hearts instill.
They will hear My voice and come,
One flock, one shepherd, they shall be,
United in the Father's love,
Bound in eternal unity.
This command from Him I hold,
To give My life, to save, to lead,
For knowing Christ surpasses all,
In Him, I've found my every need.
I count all else as loss, but gain,
The excellence of knowing Him,
For whom I've lost all worldly claims,
To gain Christ, my heart's true hymn.
In His voice, the call is clear,
In His love, our paths align,
The True Shepherd guides us near,
In His fold, forever mine.
