The Lord of the Sabbath #1880

The Lord of the Sabbath The Sabbath was made for man, A day of rest in a sacred plan. Not a burden to bear, but a gift so grand, From the heart of God’s loving hand. Jesus walked in streets adorned with light, Teaching truths in the day and night. He healed on the Sabbath, showing grace, In every act, God’s love took place. The synagogue leader, with hardened heart, Spoke of rules that set apart. “There are six days for work,” he cried, “Come then to be healed,” he defied. But Jesus, Lord of the Sabbath day, Answered with wisdom, clear as ray. “You hypocrites,” He began to say, “Do you not untie your ox on the Sabbath way?” A daughter of Abraham, bound in plight, For eighteen years, trapped in night. “Should she not be set free,” He declared, “On the Sabbath, God’s love is shared.” The Sabbath was made for you and me, A time of healing, to be set free. Not man for the Sabbath, in constraint, But love and mercy, without complaint. Jesus, the Lord of every hour, Brings forth healing by divine power. In His name, the Sabbath’s true, A day of rest, made ever new. In every act of love displayed, The Sabbath’s purpose is portrayed. Rest and mercy, hand in hand, A sacred gift from God’s command. -Steven G. Lee (June 21, 2024)
