The Echo of Stoicism #1671
The Echo of Stoicism
In Athens' ancient cradle, a spark of wisdom born,
Where Zeno taught of virtue, life's true adorn.
The Logos whispered softly, a cosmic, guiding flame,
Through Stoic hearts it traveled, igniting wisdom's name.
Virtue as the highest good, the Stoics did declare,
With courage, justice, temperance, their souls were laid bare.
Indifferent to the fleeting, to wealth and health they turned,
For inner peace and happiness were lessons they had learned.
From Socrates, the seeds were sown, of ethical pursuit,
In Stoic minds and hearts, his wisdom took its root.
Self-examination's mirror, the path to virtue's height,
A dialectic journey through reason's sacred light.
Zeno's voice in Athens, a harmony with nature's song,
With Cleanthes and Chrysippus, the Stoic line grew strong.
Seneca's Roman wisdom, self-control and moral sway,
In Augustine's Christian heart, his teachings found their way.
Epictetus, the teacher, of freedom and divine will,
In monastic lives ascetic, his echoes linger still.
Marcus Aurelius, the emperor, with meditations deep,
In leadership and duty, his Stoic soul would keep.
Through Hellenistic whispers, as cultures intertwined,
The Stoic and the Christian paths in unity aligned.
A providential order, a universe so vast,
In Christian hearts the Logos found a home to last.
Ethics and virtue, a shared, enduring thread,
From Stoic minds to Christian hearts, a tapestry was spread.
The providence of reason, the inner light's embrace,
In early Christian thought, the Stoic truths found place.
From Athens' ancient cradle to Rome's imperial might,
The Stoic and the Christian journeyed through the night.
With virtue as their compass, and Logos as their guide,
In harmony and wisdom, their paths were unified.
So let the echoes linger, in hearts both near and far,
The Stoic flame within us, a bright and guiding star.
For in the dance of reason, in virtue's gentle sway,
The Stoic and the Christian walk hand in hand today.
