Seeing Beyond: A Call to Compassion in the Wilderness of Modern Society #1939

Seeing Beyond: A Call to Compassion in the Wilderness of Modern Society In the city streets where shadows lie, Amidst the cries that reach the sky, We walk through paths where souls reside, In cardboard homes and weary eyes. What did you go out to see, dear friend? A reed shaken by the wind's fierce bend? Or did you seek a deeper truth, In faces marked by life’s hard end? Beneath the tattered, worn-out clothes, Lies strength that every storm opposes, A human heart that still beats strong, Amidst the world that deems it wrong. What did you go out to see, you ask? A broken soul behind the mask? Or stories woven with threads of pain, Of hopes and dreams amidst the rain? In every gaze, a silent plea, In every step, a path to see, That calls us to a higher plane, To heal the wounds, to ease the pain. Like John who cried in deserts bare, To hearts that dared to stop and care, These voices whisper through the night, To see the truth, to fight the fight. To rise above what eyes perceive, To mend the hearts that deeply grieve, And find within this wilderness, A call to love, a call to bless. So when you walk those crowded streets, Where every soul you chance to meet, Remember this, the deeper view, What did you go out to see, and do? For in the faces lined with strife, Lies the essence of true life, A call to action, clear and strong, To right the world, to end the wrong. In seeing beyond what eyes can see, We find our shared humanity, A call to compassion, bold and bright, To bring the lost into the light. -Steven G. Lee (June 26, 2024)
