Capitalism's Dance: A 21st-Century Reflection #1703

Capitalism's Dance: A 21st-Century Reflection In markets' dance, the prices rise and fall, Supply and demand, the heartbeat of it all. Private hands steer the ship, profit in their sight, Innovation’s relentless pace, day and night. Government steps in, a balancing act, Regulations mend, subsidies and tax. Public goods where markets fall short, Healthcare, education, essential support. Global chains stretch far, continents entwine, Trade policies shape, agreements align. A complex picture, painted in trade, Economies of scale, a global cascade. Yet shadows loom, inequality grows, A widening gap, wealth’s heavy throes. Access denied, to education, to care, Cycles of poverty, a burden to bear. Environmental cost, a heavy price, Forests fall, seas rise, under profit’s guise. Pollution mars air, greenhouse gases warm, Barren wastelands, once lush and adorned. Market failures frequent, monopolies rise, Stifling competition, under dark skies. Negative externalities, costs unpaid, Government steps in, actions delayed. Economic cycles, boom and bust, Prosperity fleeting, hardship thrust. Financial crises leave scars deep, Unemployment, homes lost, promises we keep. Labor’s plight, in gig and grind, Job security elusive, hard to find. Wages stagnant, despite toil and strive, Economic inequality, in which many lives. Healthcare’s divide, wide and steep, Costs climb high, promises we keep. Access uneven, outcomes dire, Financial stress, unmet needs, a constant fire. In this 21st-century tale, challenges we weave, Capitalism’s triumphs, tribulations grieve. Yet hope endures, in hearts that strive, For a world just and fair, where all can truly thrive. -Steven G. Lee (June 13, 2024)
