Whispers of the Wind: A Poetic Reflection on Suffering and Sacrifice #1847

Whispers of the Wind: A Poetic Reflection on Suffering and Sacrifice You think I am talking nothing but wind, But hear the echoes of a soul entwined. Human life, a forced army's service, A tale of toil and burdens unearthed. Like a slave yearning for the cool shade, Or a worker longing for his due wage. Month after month, nothing to live for, Night after night, grief settles its score. My body, a vessel full of decay, Covered in scabs, where pus finds its way. Days pass swiftly, without a glimmer of hope, Faster than a weaver's shuttle, they elope. Remember, O God, my life is but a breath, A fleeting whisper on the edge of death. Yet in this anguish, a calling profound, To lose oneself, and in loss be found. Jesus beckons, "Come, follow Me, Forget yourself, carry your cross, and be free. For whoever seeks to save their own life, Will find it lost in the midst of strife. But whoever loses life for My sake, Will find it renewed, with every step they take. What gain is there, to win the world entire, If one's soul is lost, consumed by fire?" In the whispers of the wind, hear the call, To find true life, in the surrender of all. -Steven G.
