True Guide, True Worship #1657
True Guide, True Worship
I don't believe in worship
Of those skilled at preaching,
For faith is not a performance,
Nor mere words beseeching.
"If I do not perform the works
Of my Father, don't believe me,"
Said Jesus, our Shepherd,
With truth to set us free.
His nourishment was the will
Of Him who sent His Son,
To finish the divine work,
Till all was fully done.
"I do nothing by myself,"
The Savior humbly said,
For glory belongs to God,
In every step He led.
The gathering's growing fame,
An idol's fleeting claim,
For worship of popularity
Is idolatry in name.
Jesus Christ, the Iconoclast,
Who broke the earthly mold,
Revealing Kingdom's truth,
More precious than finest gold.
In parables, He spoke,
Of virgins and their lamps,
Of talents wisely used,
And the righteous' humble camps.
He called us to a life
Of service, love, and grace,
To see Him in the least,
In every human face.
So let us turn from idols,
And worship Him alone,
For Christ is our true guide,
The Cornerstone, the Throne.
