The Philosophical Foundations of Christianity #1739

The Philosophical Foundations of Christianity In ancient times where wisdom soared, Two giants' thoughts the world explored. Plato's forms of perfect grace, Ideal realms in sacred space. Aristotle, grounded, clear, Empirical truths he held dear. Form and matter intertwined, Nature’s secrets, he defined. Plato's cave, a shadowed view, Enlightenment his pathway true. Soul's ascent to realms of light, Echoed in the Christian sight. Aristotle's virtues, wise, Practical in earthly ties. Ethics born of reasoned thought, In Christian morals, deeply sought. Platonic visions, heaven’s gate, Inspired Augustine’s faith so great. Ideal love and truth on high, In Christian hearts, they amplify. Yet Aristotle’s logic strong, In Aquinas’ works belong. Faith and reason, hand in hand, Unified, they firmly stand. Two philosophers, paths apart, Each one shaped the Christian heart. Platonic forms and earthly ways, Both enriched the faith’s displays. Thus, the Church, with wisdom crowned, In both their teachings, truth is found. Plato's dreams and Aristotle's might, Together form the Christian light. -Steven G. Lee (June 9, 2024)
