Freedom Beyond the Chains #1829
Freedom Beyond the Chains
The person who forgets his conscience
Is a slave to the immediate,
Bound by fleeting desires,
Chained by the whims of the moment.
Slavery lurks in bad conscience,
For the one who thinks he is free,
A life shadowed by illusion,
A mind shackled by delusion.
Life, in its purest form,
Is freedom in a good conscience,
A soul unburdened, soaring,
Unfettered by guilt or shame.
Be aware, truly aware,
Of being a slave to the fear,
The fear of pain, the dread of death,
For therein lies the root of slavery.
Don't be a slave to your own mind,
To possessions, to habits, to addictions,
To the ghosts of the past
That haunt your present steps.
For DEATH INTO CHRIST IS FREEDOM,
A liberation profound and true,
Better than any earthly slavery,
A promise of life renewed.
In Christ, we find our freedom,
As the scriptures tell us so:
Romans, Galatians, Corinthians,
Hebrews, John, Luke, and Matthew.
His yoke is easy, His burden light,
For He came to set us free,
From the chains that bind our spirits,
To a life of eternal liberty.
