A Call to Compassion #1903

A Call to Compassion In a world of wealth and progress grand, Hearts harden, failing to understand. The refugee, with hope and pain, At our borders, pleads in vain. Teachings call to love and care, For neighbors, strangers everywhere. "Do not neglect the stranger's plea, For angels may they come to be." Walls of fear and prejudice rise, Within our hearts and in our eyes. Easier to turn away, Protect our comfort, keep fear at bay. True compassion sees beyond, Labels that our hearts abscond. Every soul a story tells, Of trials, dreams, and where hope dwells. We travelers on this earth's expanse, Seeking places to belong, perchance. Welcoming the refugee, a spiritual task, In love and kindness, we are asked. "For I was hungry, and you fed, Thirsty, given drink, words said. A stranger, you welcomed me, In this love, we all are free." Open hearts and homes, let's strive, In warmth and care, let love revive. A higher purpose, let us reflect, Divine compassion, we perfect. Rise above division's voice, In hope and love, let us rejoice. Beacons of hospitality, In a world in desperate need. May we rise above the fear, Embrace the wanderer, draw them near. With open hearts, let's take a stand, A call to compassion, hand in hand. -Steven G. Lee (June 23, 2024)
