Between Tradition and Tomorrow: A Reflection on Modern Faith #532*
Between Tradition and Tomorrow: A Reflection on Modern Faith
In the quiet spaces between our bustling lives,
Where modernity meets the ancient call of our faith,
We find ourselves at a crossroads, much like those
Who walked the dusty roads of Jerusalem,
Their hearts heavy with tradition and law,
Yet missing the whisper of love, mercy, and humility.
Today, our church stands tall, reaching out
Through waves of digital ether and echoes of commerce,
Growing, adapting, yet risking the essence
Of what it means to believe, to belong.
In this dance with capitalism, this embrace of the new,
Let us not lose our footing. Let us remember
The core of our teachings — love, compassion,
Forgiveness, and community — these beacons
That guide us through the tumult of progress.
As we navigate this world, where market trends
Might dictate the rhythm of our spiritual lives,
Let's critically question, let's lovingly challenge,
Ensuring our path aligns with the common good,
Embracing inclusivity, championing social justice,
And fostering a community that reflects
The very heart of Jesus' message.
This is our journey, friends, through the complexities
Of a faith tested by time and change.
As we ponder this path, let's share, reflect, and dream
Of a Christianity that transcends the constraints
Of capitalism, a faith that transforms not just us,
But the very world we inhabit.
In this shared space of thought and reflection,
Let's converse, let's connect over the essence
Of what it means to walk this modern path of faith,
Guided by the ancient lights of love and mercy.
Yours in contemplation and hope,
Ptr Steven G. Lee (March 10, 2024)
