Rhythms of Renewal: Transforming Our Streets with Christ #1255
Rhythms of Renewal: Transforming Our Streets with Christ
(Transformative City: A Prose Poem)
There's a world between speaking and listening,
a gulf where words drown and ears fall short.
Mouths too long, ears too short,
the rhythm of this life beats on,
but only the Spirit breathes new rhythm—
the rhythm of Christ, living, transforming on the cross,
renewing what was broken, calling out of darkness
and planting light among us.
The real Christ is out there, in the shadow and light
of everyday streets, in alleys and crowded sidewalks,
in the tired eyes of those who wander and wait.
Do you see Him there? Do you feel Him,
tugging at your countenance, shaping it
for neighbors, lifting the broken and worn
on wings of grace and love?
We must reshape our streets, redefine the pulse of public space,
make room for the living, the breathing, the shared breath of kindness,
building together a city where every neighborhood is a home.
In the matrix of life’s intricate alleys, where street meets heart,
may our faith be more than words—
may it be hands and feet, giving life to dusty corners,
practical faith blooming in every crevice,
and the countenance of Christ gleaming on every face.
