Bridge of Reverence: Verses on the Fifth Commandment's Echo #279*
Bridge of Reverence: Verses on the Fifth Commandment's Echo
In nature’s embrace, where whispers weave,
Commandments echo, souls to cleave.
First to fourth, a sacred bond,
Fifth unfolds, beyond and beyond.
“Honor thy parents,” a divine plea,
For days long in lands given free.
Rejoice, rejoice, in this command,
Life’s worth and strength, in your hand.
From sixth to tenth, the threads entwine,
Golden insights, divinely fine.
Yet above all, the greatest call:
Love—boundless, deep—embracing all.
Jesus spoke, in light so bright,
Love God and neighbors, with all your might.
Through Matthew, Mark, Luke’s verse,
His teachings, our universe.
But if respect for those we see,
Escapes our grasp, how can it be,
To love the unseen, the God above,
Or neighbors near, with purest love?
The fifth, a bridge from earth to sky,
Where Jesus walked, so too should I.
Honoring parents, loving all,
In God’s image, we stand tall.
Thus, this command, not just a rule,
But a bridge of love, oh so cool.
Walking in footsteps, Jesus laid,
In love and honor, our lives arrayed.
A poem of connections, law to love,
From earth beneath to skies above.
In every verse, a truth unfurled,
A harmony, in reverence, the world.
