Divine Tapestry: Verses on Faith and Doctrine #884
Divine Tapestry: Verses on Faith and Doctrine
(Echoes of Grace: A Poetic Journey Through Calvinism and Lutheranism)
In history’s hushed corridors, whispers float,
Carrying tales of grace, of divine will intertwined with human plight.
Through the kaleidoscopic glass of time, we peer,
At the divergent paths of Calvin and Luther, etched deep in theological stone.
Calvin speaks: Total depravity,
Humanity draped in sin’s relentless shadow,
Unable to step toward the divine light unaided.
Irresistible grace draws the elect,
As rivers are drawn inevitably to the ocean's embrace.
Limited atonement— a beacon,
Shining solely for the preordained,
While perseverance of the saints
Promises a steadfast march,
Guided by the unyielding hand of fate.
Across this doctrinal divide, Luther paints anew,
Universal justification—a broad stroke of inclusion,
Offering salvation’s embrace to every seeking soul.
Means of grace flow, rivers nurturing faith,
Where sacraments and scripture feed the spiritual wanderer.
Bound yet free, human will dances,
Navigating earthly trials under the gaze of the divine.
Yet in this Lutheran hall, a somber note is struck—
Possibility of apostasy, a door ajar,
Through which the flickering light of faith may vanish.
On this stage, eternal questions play out,
A dialogue stretching through the ages—
Calvinism’s fortress, robust and secure,
Against Lutheranism’s open gates,
Welcoming the winds of doubt and the seekers of the divine.
In the echoes of grace, our reflections deepen,
In the poetic dance of theology, we find not just doctrines
But the echo of our own deep fears and highest hopes,
Invited into the light, wherever it may fall,
In this sacred dance of divine mystery and human yearning.
