Echoes in the Shadows: A Compassionate Call for Our City #1043

Echoes in the Shadows: A Compassionate Call for Our City In the hushed whispers of our city's veins, Where shadows stretch and the evening wanes, We gather with hearts, open and raw, To mend the torn seams of a fraying law. Sacred is the speech, even from those who plead, In alleys where hope scatters like dandelion seed. Safety must not silence the desperate calls, Nor confine their echo within darkened walls. Beneath the vast dome of our shared skies, A plea resonates, urging the powerful to rise. Build homes, not barriers, in spaces where despair resides, Offer health, jobs, dignity—where humanity abides. Draw the circle wider, let no soul stand alone, Invite the silenced voices to rise into the known. Change blooms from within, a force by hearts approved, Reflecting values cherished, in every life improved. Embrace technology with empathy, let innovation extend A hand to those unseen, make the outcast a friend. Shift systems, unlock potentials, decriminalize the plea, View each face as worthy, each life's story as key. To those who wield the pen, the power, the might: Consider these words, let compassion ignite. Policies that protect, uplift, and heal, Are born from compassion, not from steel. Together, let's paint the canvas of the night, With dreams vibrant, turning blight into light. Our city, a beacon, if we but choose to stand United in belief, with dignity hand in hand. For what are we, if not guardians of each other’s fate? In acts of kindness, we dismantle walls of hate. In every law that lifts, in every heart that hears, Lies the future we yearn for, wiping away the tears. So I write to you with a spirit's hopeful plea, Shape tomorrow with care, for all to be free. A place where no voice is small, and every story is told, In our beloved city, where no one is left in the cold. Written by Steven G. Lee (April 27, 2024)
