Desires and Disasters: Verses on the Human Heart and War #1053
Desires and Disasters: Verses on the Human Heart and War
In ancient scripture’s whisper, time’s corridor echoes clear:
War, a wild vine from desire’s fertile soil, does appear.
James’s voice, from pulpit high, pierces night and day:
"What births the quarrels, the endless fray?
Is it not the heart’s wild storm, desires that sway?"
Each man a kingdom, his dreams the cannons loud,
Roaring over lands, proud and unbowed.
Yet, the earth bears scars, warriors’ relentless route,
Cries fill the air, hearts forever in dispute.
They seek—oh how they seek!—peace beneath the sun,
But find themselves empty when the day is done.
Bloodied hands grasp at shadows, fleeting fast,
In war’s mirror, our darkest selves cast.
Reflections of power, greed, insatiable needs,
While heaven weeps for lost souls, its heart bleeds.
War’s seduction, its quick, fierce embrace,
Leads only to ruin, humanity’s disgrace.
Scripture calls: turn away, weary soul, from the fight,
Seek peace in whispers, not the gun’s blight.
In humility ask, and perhaps you’ll receive
Not from conquest, but from belief that peace can conceive.
Walk through this world, eyes wide to devastation’s mark,
Yet hold hope for renewal, a new day to embark.
Let not scripture’s lessons echo distant, lost in the void,
But as calls to action, our better angels employed.
Examine the heart, the motives dark within,
Seek wisdom not in war, but in peace’s quiet hymn.
True victory lies not over lands afar,
But in conquering the internal war, raising the bar.
