From Law to Grace: The New Exodus in the Baptism of Christ #1099

From Law to Grace: The New Exodus in the Baptism of Christ In the whispering sands, beneath the ancient sky, once marched a people bound by chains, by the iron of Egypt and the weight of centuries. Through parted seas they walked, the waters towering like walls of glass, a corridor of miracles hewn by divine hands—a baptism into Moses, into the stone tablets of Law. Here lay the old covenant, written in sand and sea, a sacred pact of smoke and fire, guiding a nation to the foot of Sinai. Centuries spun like desert winds, and along the banks of the Jordan, another voice cried out, not from the thundering clouds but from the wild, untamed wilderness. John, cloaked in camel’s hair, baptized not with the fire of the mountain but with the river's soft caress, whispering repentance, whispering change. And into these waters, more gentle than the Red Sea's rage, stepped the One who would fulfill and transcend the ancient Law. Jesus, named and called beloved under open heavens, rose from the Jordan not just cleansed but transfigured, inaugurating a new exodus. Not from Pharaoh's grasp but from sin's deeper stain. Here, the waters did not crash back to conceal but flowed onward, endless, a stream of grace. This New Exodus, led not through desert sands but through human hearts, marks a passage from the stone-cold Law to the warm, beating heart of Grace. Under this new covenant, we are no longer slaves to ordinances but children of the Spirit, baptized not into Moses but into Christ. From Law to Grace, from sea to river, from stone to spirit, this journey redefines deliverance—a rebirth not into law but into eternal life. Through these waters, we emerge, not just survivors of the sea, but heirs of the kingdom, baptized into everlasting grace. Written by Steven G. Lee (April 29, 2024)
