Whispers in the Garden: A Poem Against Hidden Perils #1094

Whispers in the Garden: A Poem Against Hidden Perils (Veiled Shadows: An Urgent Call Against the Adulteration of Solace) In the twilight’s dim embrace, Where shadows mingle with the mirth of leaves, A sinister silence blooms— Fentanyl’s ghostly fingers, xylazine’s silent roar, Stealthy invaders in the garden of calm. Each inhale, a dangerous lottery, Could bear the potent whisper of opioids, Or the heavy lull of sedatives meant for beasts, Not men. These leaves, now laced with more Than nature’s intent, harbor silent screams. The streets whisper their dark secrets, Where the unchecked and unregulated thrive. Detection—a distant dream, locked in labs, Far from the desperate reaches of the needy night. Hear the call, not a whisper but a roar, To awaken, to stand firm, Against this creeping death in the green. Lace our resolve with action, not just awareness, Craft policies that guard, enforce laws that care. Let us build, from negligence’s ashes, A haven regulated, safe and sound. For we are the guardians, the keepers of joy, Watchers over each other’s peace, In this play of life and breath. Written by Steven G. Lee (April 29, 2024)
