Sacred Stewardship: Echoes of Divine Kinship* #1050

Sacred Stewardship: Echoes of Divine Kinship In the hushed tones of dawn, the Earth whispers secrets wrapped in verdant leaves, murmuring to those who walk gently upon its skin. It speaks of a time when the soil was untouched by the aspirations of ownership, an age old as the stars scattered across the celestial tapestry. The land, a divine tapestry itself, proclaims in every grain and every breeze: "I am not yours to own." For in the sacred texts of Leviticus, we are reminded—a gentle yet firm chiding—that the land is not to be bartered, for it belongs to the Creator. Like the fleeting shadows cast by an afternoon sun, we are but transient stewards, tasked not with dominion but with tender care. We are urged to grant redemption to the land, to preserve its sanctity, to honor its divine proprietor by recognizing our true role as caretakers. And as the sun climbs, casting light on the common paths we tread, the Gospels offer echoes of a deeper kinship. In the throng of a gathered crowd, Jesus redefines family, not as a lineage of blood but as a lineage of spirit. "Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asks. The air holds its breath as the answer unfurls like a banner in the wind: those who align with the divine will, who tend to the vineyards of the Lord without claim of inheritance, they are kin. This spiritual kinship, bound by shared stewardship and the pursuit of God's will, draws us into a collective embrace. Each tree, each stone, and every creature—great and small—is a thread in the tapestry we are entrusted to maintain. Our true heritage is not written in the deeds of land, but in the deeds of love, compassion, and communal stewardship. Thus, we walk the Earth, not as owners, but as participants in a divine covenant. We share the air, the water, and the fruitful earth, savoring the joy of unity, the profound peace of knowing that our true possession is our relationship with the Creator and with each other. In this shared space, every act of care is a prayer, every gesture of conservation a hymn, and every moment of unity a testament to the divine will. The land, the sky, the infinite reaches of the earth—all proclaim a unity that transcends the physical. In stewardship, in sharing, we find the essence of divine will, a call to live not merely alongside but deeply within, woven into the fabric of creation itself. This is our sacred charge, our eternal kinship—where every heartbeat echoes the rhythm of the divine, and every breath is a shared breath of life. Written by Steven G. Lee (April 27, 2024)
