First Among the Last: A Call to Grace #1065
First Among the Last: A Call to Grace
In the whispers of Matthew's ancient verse,
Jesus speaks—bold truth in soft-spoken words:
"Tax gatherers, harlots, ahead of you to the divine—
A mirror for the self-righteous, their virtues to redefine.
Amidst the vineyard’s sprawling, sacred ground,
A tale of two sons, their choices profound:
One, rebellious at dawn, yet by dusk he stands tall—
The other, with promises made, fulfills none at all.
Grace and Redemption:
Behold, the feast of grace, wide and free,
Where lost and found alike are welcomed with glee;
Shadows of past misdeeds dissolve in light,
As repentant hearts reclaim their sight.
Judgment and Humility:
Contemplate the gentle kneel of the proud,
No longer lofty, their heads humbly bowed;
Each soul, no higher than another,
Together seeking the embrace of the Father.
Genuine Faith:
True faith, not a cloak of mere show,
But woven from deeds that from the heart flow;
Mercy, justice, and love—the threads so right,
Enveloping all in warmth and divine light.
Inclusivity in Faith Communities:
Imagine a table where seats abound,
Inclusive love in faith profound;
Doors flung wide, the welcome sincere,
A place for all, with no room for fear.
This gospel’s call, through ages it rings—
Inviting, urging, a welcoming of wings;
To wade into mercy’s endless stream,
Where last are first, and the lost can dream."
