THE ENTANGLED SERPENTS OF WAR AND PROFIT

THE ENTANGLED SERPENTS OF WAR AND PROFIT

The greatest dangers to civilization do not always arise from a single act of aggression or a single pursuit of wealth. They emerge when the interests of war and profit become so deeply intertwined that each begins to sustain and justify the other. When conflict becomes economically rewarding, peace risks becoming economically inconvenient.

Such entanglements extend beyond the battlefield. They influence industries, financial markets, political decisions, technological development, and public priorities. The consequences are borne not by balance sheets, but by soldiers, civilians, refugees, grieving families, and future generations whose lives are shaped by conflicts they did not choose.

Every nation has a legitimate responsibility to provide for its defense and protect its citizens. Yet the moral strength of a civilization is tested by whether its economic and political systems remain ordered toward the preservation of human life rather than becoming increasingly dependent upon the continuation of violence.

The challenge before humanity is therefore not merely to untangle markets from war, but to restore conscience to power, accountability to prosperity, and mercy to the center of public life. A just society measures its greatness not by the industries that flourish during conflict, but by the peace it builds, the lives it protects, and the dignity it preserves.

For whenever profit stands above humanity, civilization begins to lose its soul. But wherever human life remains the highest value, peace becomes more than the absence of war—it becomes the triumph of conscience over fear, and of mercy over power.
